RAW:Victoria presents OVATION

  • Capital Ballroom 858 Yates Street Victoria, BC, V8W 1L8 Canada (map)

Sheryl is putting names of those who have bought a ticket into a draw. If your name is chosen, she will give you one of the original dog paintings of your choice, or paint your pet for free if you make a donation to an animal shelter of your choice.

The fascination of people, and more recently of rescue dogs, is evident in Sheryl’s art. She likes to paint intriguing personalities who are quirky, have history in their faces, display attitude, or have that certain something that sets them apart, which tells a curious story. Big brushes/spatulas are her tools to paint with and she uses gobs of colourful acrylics and mixed media to portray her subject in a loose and gestural way. She is self taught, but attributes a tangle of influences in her art such as workshops she has attended, the artistic community she lives in, galleries, music, and books.

"The process of painting is a happy immersion for me. Being suspended in time while responding to what happens next on my canvas as as I work on something that resonates with me is euphoric! However, it’s that heartfelt connection to people and to the animals up for adoption in shelters that sparks my work. For this reason, part of the proceeds from selling my art goes to ‘Bridges for Women Society’, an organization I admire for all their healing humanitarian actions to better the lives of women who have suffered trauma, and the dog portrait proceeds go directly to the animal shelter where they are from."
